Available in its own wooden case, this magnum Montecucco Rosso Riserva 2020 is a highly intriguing, organic wine: full, spicy and juicy.
ColleMassari is the most important and largest estate of the Montecucco appellation in central Tuscany. The vineyards are located on the Montecucco hill that gives name to the appellation. The vines on the Montecucco hill are the oldest Sangiovese vines of the DOCG
The Organic Montecucco Rosso Riserva 2020 is a highly intriguing wine: full and juicy, a drink of great contrast and flavor, with airy, defined aromas that summon fresh cherry and pepper.
The 2020 Montecucco Rosso Riserva lifts from the glass with a whiff of reduction that slowly blows off to reveal an herbal-tinged mix of wild strawberries, cedar and spice. This is rich and velvety, with masses of ripe red fruits and tactile mineral tones complicated by a note of sage. Brisk acidity maintains balance. It tapers off with a woody sensation, like a pine spice box, as hints of chalk dust and inner rose fade. The warmth of the vintage imparted a fleshy, nearly opulent character to the Rosso Riserva., a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking window: 2024-2032.
"Crunchy red cherries and raspberries, followed by lifted floral notes and spices with a hint of chopped bell pepper. Medium body, with chewy tannins and refreshing acidity. Simple but delightful. From organically grown grapes." James Suckling
Aged 18 months in oak barrels and barriques, half new, remainder second and third use. Matured one year in bottle before release
Montecucco is located between Montalcino, and Scansano, and benefits from microclimates similar to both of those regions. The Castello ColleMassari winery is located in Cinigiano in the foothills of Monte Amiata, about 1050ft above sea level.

As does the winemaker, we too recommend decanting the 2020 for 1 hour to 1.5 hours
