This is a delicious and savory wine with beautiful, ripe and creamy tannins, as well as chocolate and plum character. Full body.

With the idea of producing a wine that shows another facet to the estate at Chateau Palmer, Alter Ego is led by the same high standards that govern the composition of Château Palmer's great wine.
In 2022 there will only be 4000 cases of Alter Ego and 10,000 cases of Palmer. The Alter Ego is 51% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot this year from a low yield of 22 hl/ha
The 2019 Alter Ego has a gorgeous fragrance, so expressive and open, scented with red cherries, strawberries and floral notes, violets, irises and roses. Powerful on the palate, clearly ripe black berry fruit but encased in lacy tannins with such appealing juiciness. Playful and so enjoyable, clean, pure, energetic with lively acidity, chalky edges and spicing throughout. Classy and well constructed with refinement. Really quite moreish even now but still delivering power and the Margaux charm.
Like most critics, Jeb Dunnuck speaks highly of this wine, even comparing it to a Grand Vin 'It's a rich, voluptuous, full-bodied, unctuous second wine that has more texture and richness than just about every other second wine out there while staying beautifully balanced, layered, and elegant'
James Suckling 94/100
Jeb Dunnuck 94/100
Decanter 93/100

Ready to drink, but will continue to develop and improve till 2045
We suggest decanting for 2 to 3 hours in wide-bottom decanter to reveal the complexity and savoury aspects of this complex wine.
Would pair perfectly with meaty steaks, herb-crusted Roasts of Lamb, Beef Pot Roasts, and Grilled Lamb Chops.
